GROUNDED EXHIBITION

GROUNDED is a multi-sensory exploration of the rich relationship between Bundjalung people and the native bush plants of the Northern Rivers.
This exhibition celebrates the wisdom of Bundjalung Elders and their ongoing care for Country. King’s sound installation captures recordings of native plant species involved the regeneration of the Big Scrub, inviting audiences to experience the land as a living, breathing entity. Ebejer’s work reflects on the interconnection of all life forms, inspired by the complex web of relationships that sustain Bundjalung Country.
Emerging from collaborative conversations with local custodians, this exhibition emphasises the importance of listening to Elders and respecting Indigenous ecological knowledge. The artworks are more than creative expressions; they are acts of cultural revitalisation, honouring stories that have sustained these lands for millennia.
GROUNDED invites us to deepen our connection to nature, recognise the resilience of First Nations communities, and explore how we can contribute to a sustainable and harmonious future.

Artist Statement:  This work is a meditation on the microcosmic lifeforms in this place and an opportunity to seek wisdom from them and also give them a voice.   In times of climate change, there is an urgency to do something active for change with the skills I have as an artist/ filmmaker and bringing awareness to the plight of nature in this place.

As a resident on Bundjalung country, my connections to this place and people who have cared for it over generations is vital.

Ecosphere is an extension of creative and collaborative work with local knowledge holders – this artwork will be supported by other artworks and experiences within the exhibition.

ECOSPHERE

"Ecosphere" is an immersive video sculpture project designed to highlight the beauty of endemic and endangered species through a blend of visual art and immersive technology. The installation aims to create a narrative that crosses between art and environmental awareness, inviting viewers to engage with and reflect upon interconnections and cycles within our natural world.

The essence of "Ecosphere" combines the emotional impact of video art with the physical presence of a sculptural form. The installation will feature a large [approx.1.5metre] circular shape that hangs delicately from the ceiling. This has a video projection of endangered species endemic to the Northern Rivers/Bundjalung region mapped onto it. The video will be edited to depict many different species of flora and fauna in a creatively way.  Using mirroring, the images will at times resemble a mandala, with the forms from nature digitally altered.

The circle will rotate slowly and create an eclipse-like shadow onto the rear wall behind it which speaks to the passing of time and the urgency for the survival of these species. This projection will be accompanied by a carefully curated soundscape of their natural environments, creating a multi-sensory experience that immerses viewers in the locations.
